International Cherry Blossom Festival

Marking the arrival of spring, the International Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC  carries a light, seasonal energy that contrasts with the city’s more structured identity. In developing the design system, I explored this tension between the strength and formality of Washington, DC, and the softness of the cherry blossoms, using a mix of bold and light type weights to reflect both.

The typography draws from the movement of falling petals, translating their drifting motion into subtle shifts in rhythm and spacing. A restricted black and white palette grounds the system, allowing the soft pink of the blossoms to stand out as the central visual accent.
