International Cherry Blossom Festival

An event that’s very special to me back home is the International Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC. A sign of spring, it’s light and refreshing. Between the cherry blossoms and Washington DC, I wanted a contrast between strong and soft in my design system. I played with bold and light weight’s to expressing the energy of Washington DC and cherry blossoms through their typefaces. I was inspired by the movement of the flower petals falling and wanted the type to emulate that swaying as it falls and moves across the page. Restricting to just black and white helped emphasize the gentle pink that’s iconic to the flowers.
